This is a wonderful place that combines privacy, an everchanging outlook of estuary, sea, mountains and greenery, comfort and amenity with high level green design. A gem.
Fantastic secluded setting with panoramic views across Wainui Bay. The house is really great and an ideal place for exploring Abel Tasman - just wished we had booked a longer stay. Gas BBQ, steak and local wine, friendly weka and an awesome vista - what's not to like?
My husband and I stayed here for a few nights on our honeymoon and it was our favorite accommodation on our entire three trip week on both the North and South islands. Not only is the house environmentally conscious, it is built on the most gorgeous piece of land overlooking an incredible coastline. I would recommend anyone considering staying here to DO IT!! You will not regret it. Breathtakingly beautiful.
Superb location and views..
Such a stunning place in a beautiful part of the world. The bath was a beautiful way to relax on an evening and the eco aspects of the property were great! Would recommend for anyone to stay here! It's a gorgeous area so definitely stay for more than one night! We wish we could of stayed longer!
Little Greenie is a real gem. We stayed a whole week which allowed us to soak up the extraordinary views, get to know the resident wildlife, and watch the tide ebb and flow. This is not a place for those who cannot entertain themselves as it is a 30 minute drive to Takaka along a scenic, but small and winding road. We enjoyed the outdoor bathtub and made most meals for ourselves. The kitchen is well equipped. The bed is comfortable and large. Do not have any qualms about the composting toilet. It works perfectly and truly has no smell whatsoever. There is no WiFi, but you can get cell signal, though occasionally it is a bit spotty. There are some hiking tracks you can do nearby, as well as the start of the Abel Tasman Great Walk. As it is a bit remote, it makes exploring the rest of Golden Bay more time consuming. However, for a private, secluded experience, with a view to die for, it can't be beat. Lovely place!
This is the most amazing place for a private getaway. Nestled in a beautiful part of New Zealand, friendly hosts. The house itself is simple but feels spacious and luxurious. Very inspiring design. There are some lovely walks to do in the area ; we enjoyed the wainui falls walk and one to Taupo point. We would love to return; might fly instead of drive next time !
This property is absolutely incredible. It's so secluded and incredibly romantic. The view is spectacular, and we were the only ones on the beaches. Good to know that it's a ways from the nearest airport in Nelson (2 hours), and the only towns nearby are tiny. Absolutely perfect for a romantic getaway.
Nice house, amazing view, great host
Excellent location, private, well maintained home, house was warm in middle of winter. Excellent retreat to relax. Short walk to sandy beaches and bays with range of sea & birdlife. Decent value in winter season.
Such an amazing and inspirational place! We had a lovely lady walk us through the house and explained why the Little Greenie is so great. The pictures don't do the view justice, it's just beautiful. Have already recommended to all my friends!
Loved the outside bath, lots of hot water, the whole design, the privacy, the wekas, the beautiful view , easy access to walking tracks. It was even impressive when we had a storm come through. Might well have become our favourite place to stay. Loved the comfy armchairs. Great hosts and enjoyed finding out about the Eco features of the house.
This is one of those places you love so much you almost don't want everyone to know about it! Beautiful setting and house - especially from the outdoor bath. Would love to come back for a longer stay. Didn't see the hosts at all but we had everything we needed. loo Thanks again, we will be back
The view from the little greenie is worth the 22 hours of travel to reach New Zealand alone. leaving that place was worse than most break ups I've experienced. Bring some salmon to grill and a bottle of wine. The surrounding area is limited for dinning options. Definitely bring cash and book the drop off service for Abel Tasman hikes.
Although we were originally curious about the eco-friendly features of Little Greenie, we were also a bit apprehensive about a few things like the compost toilet. Not to worry! Everything worked well and was just right. Although it's a bit off the beaten path, it's so close to the Abel Tasman track that we were able to walk back to the house after a half-day tramp (which we began after the house caretaker dropped us off at the starting point). Great views of Wainui Bay during the day and the Milky Way at night made this the perfect hideaway for us. Highly recommended.
This place is an absolute gem! It's nestled in one of the most pristine areas of New Zealand - Golden Bay. It was the perfect location - handy and convenient to shops and restaurants in Takaka but far enough away that you feel totally secluded from the outside world. The house is easy to find, private, modern yet rustic and sports some impressive energy efficiency features. The compost toilet is a pleasure to use - extremely clean, odour free and a true "organic" experience. The house is situated on a hill with no view of any other houses - all you can see is ocean and bush. Your only guests will be the friendly weka (bird) on the property who pop in during your outdoor bath. The kitchen is well equipped and we were particularly impressed by Lawrence's attention to detail - everything was immaculately cleaned, a great sound system was available for use, there were magazines to read, great local information and useful instructions on how to use everything in the house. Overall, I got the impression that Lawrence really cared about his guests experience and had spared no expense when it came to creating a sanctuary for people to escape the busy day to day life. This house would suit international visitors or locals (like us) looking for a special weekend getaway. Don't be fooled by the composting toilets and energy efficiency - this house has all the modern comforts without feeling guilty! Thanks for a wonderful stay, we'll be back!
Little Greeny Eco House is umbliebably fantastic. We could enjyoy breathtaking views from outside bath. One night, a bird "weka" visited us. She walked around the house. We are satisfied with atmosohere, rooms and natures.
The ecolodge was absolutely stunning!!! The view is unbelievable and the home itself is really cool! Everything was absolutely perfect, we were bummed to have only stayed one night!
Little Greenie is a fabulous place to stay! The "green" aspects of the house are interesting and work well. The view is enthralling - always different. We were happy to sit and watch the tide and the sky.
Little Greenie Ecohouse is a bit off the beaten path and incredibly worth the trek to get there. The joy of this property is its perch on a hillside with sweeping views of Wainui Bay and the Abel Tasman area. Through the 180-degree sweep of floor to ceiling windows, this view permeates almost every aspect of living in this open concept house. Even from bed at night, we could view stars moonlight over the bay (though there are blinds for those who prefer total darkness). Little Greenie Ecohouse is situated on a larger property with several other accommodations, extremely well designed so that once you arrive at the house, the perch feels completely private, as if you were the only people on the entire rainforest hillside. The interior is clean and modern, with the best appointed kitchen of all the places we stayed in both Australia and New Zealand. There is an indoor shower, but trust me, you will spend hours in the outdoor bath (very romantic with a glass of wine and some chocolate). The only seeming "inconvenience" of the eco-design is the compost toilet, a glorified indoor outhouse, but we discovered it was stunningly odorless (incredible ventilation design work) and realized it was no inconvenience at all. The house is a quick 5 minute drive to the quiet Western edge of Abel Tasman National Park (hiking, beaches, etc.), and 30 minutes from Takaka, a somewhat bustling town stepped in hippie culture, with a nice selection of cafes and shops, full size grocery store, and evening opportunities to hear live music. We did not meet Lawrence in person, but he was easy to work with.
Very relaxing and beautiful spot, we will be back!

Little Greenie was the best place to relax and unwind after a 5 day hike. If it is available, you should book it. Lawrence, and managers Jackie and Joe, provide a great service. We organised a car dropoff to Totaranui (with Joe for a very reasonable additional fee), caught the water taxi to Marahau and then did the 5 day Abel Tasman Hike. It was wonderful at the end of the trip to walk the extra 1km from Wainui Bay car park at the end of the hike straight to Little Greenie. Wonderful spot and loved watching the tide ebb and flood from the bath and the loungeroom.
We had a lovely break and cant wait to go back. Lawrence went out of his way to accomodate us and it was very appreciated. We were made to feel very welcome, thanks heaps. Awesome spot.
Most magical place I have ever stayed! You can't imagine how great it is until you actually see it in person. The house itself it such an incredible design but the view takes the cake. There are so many great hikes right out the back door as well. Book it!
