Long Term Thinking
Little Greenie is built to last a long time and designed to require very few "inputs" during its lifespan. We see longevity, maintainability and repairability as key pillars of what it means to be sustainable.
The longer something lasts and the easier it is to maintain then the less impact it has on our environment. This is long term thinking.
This concept applies to everything we build and buy. From the concrete and stainless steel used in construction to the refillable multipurpose cleaning products from Advance Nature that you'll find in Little Greenie.
Stay at the Little Greenie accommodation and know that you're supporting sustainable living practices that contribute to reducing carbon emissions. And while you're there you'll come to see all the benefits first hand.
Energy-Efficient By Design
Little Greenie is designed based on German models of passive solar design. It uses high insulation standards, orientation towards the sun, thermal mass storage, and high-quality components like double-glazed windows to maintain a comfortable warmth with minimal energy input. Overlapping insulation layers offer superior thermal resistance and the design eliminates common heat leaks, reducing energy waste.
A comprehensive solar water system provides underfloor heating, while low wattage, long-lasting dimming LED lighting is used throughout the accommodation to ensure efficient energy use.
Until you've experienced Little Greenie, it's hard to appreciate just how efficient it is.
Right to Repair
The “Right to Repair” movement advocates for consumers to repair the products they own. This concept aims to extend the lifespan of items and reduce waste by making repairs possible and accessible. Repairing products supports sustainability, conserves resources, and decreases the environmental impact of manufacturing and disposal while contributing to a more sustainable and circular economy.
We purchase high quality products for Little Greenie that are designed with repairability in mind. Take our kitchen toasters for example, they aren't the most fashionable and they are more costly, but they are high quality and specifically designed to be fixable should something go wrong.
Off-Grid Solar Energy System
The accommodation is powered by a off-grid solar energy system, meaning it generates its own electricity from a renewable and clean energy source: the sun.
This system offers numerous benefits including reducing greenhouse gas emissions, energy independence, lower long-term energy costs, sustainability, and low maintenance.
This aligns with our principles of self-sufficiency and responsible use of resources, demonstrating a commitment to sustainable living and environmental stewardship.
