If you want to enjoy the still winter days in Golden Bay, this holiday house catches all the afternoon sun, stores it, and maintains a comfortable temperature.

Little Greenie may appear to be just another modern, professionally finished house with stunning views in a beautiful location. Of course everyone will notice some differences sooner or later, but those interested in environmental technology and smart building will find the differences go right down to the foundations.

Little Greenie is designed with four major principles in mind: Energy efficiency, low maintenance/longevity, ease of construction and value for money. It may be modern, but it’s not about frills or fashion; and while it is unashamedly utilitarian, it’s definitely not drab or boring.

What To Do

  • Nothing

Take a moment… breathe out… and breathe in the quiet.

  • Beautiful Sunsets

Over the water in winter and the mountains in summer. The weather doesn't matter, it'll be just perfect.

  • Outdoor Bath

Every guest loves our outdoor baths - what's not to love? Steaming hot water, magical views and a quiet moment to just be.

  • Swim in the Sea

The clear waters around Wainui Bay are ideal for taking a dip. Or you can simply explore the shoreline.

  • Walk to Taupo Point

A two hour walk along the coastline from Wainui Bay is Taupo Point pa. Evening picnics at Taupo Point are very special. The beach glows under the fading evening light and the kanuka trees turn a rich, bronze colour which contrasts with the emerald colour of the sea.

  • Walk to Wainui Falls

Just five minutes from Golden Bay Hideaway. This is one of Golden Bay's must-do short walks. A stunning native bush track along the Wainui River leads to Wainui Falls, the largest falls in Golden Bay - pack for a picnic and a swim.

  • North Park Walks

Walk the remote northern section of the famous Abel Tasman Coast Track from Totaranui back to Golden Bay Hideaway at Wainui. You'll experience the wild beauty, golden sand beaches and clear waters - without the crowds you might encounter further south. It is a beautiful walk!

  • Kite Surfing

Having consistent north and north-westerly winds in the main season (September to December) and the still turquoise waters in the lagoon makes it a very attractive spot for freestyle. You can have all conditions in one day, as when the tide goes out there are some nice waves on the main outer beach.

  • Kayaking

The Abel Tasman National park is a world renowned sea kayaking destination. Golden Bay Hideaway is a perfectly positioned at the northern end of the national park to explore the many beaches, coves and headlands.

  • Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP)

There are many days with still waters from December on, and that makes SUPping an awesome experience here. Easily access the many islands and the northern part of the Abel Tasman National Park, exploring its beautiful flora and fauna.

  • Mountain Bike Park

On-site at Golden Bay Hideaway is the best downhill bike park and jumps in the top of the south island. Lovingly crafted by Amani McIntyre. Bring your bike and get professional instruction.

  • Abel Tasman National Park

Abel Tasman National Park is loved for its golden beaches, sculptured granite cliffs, and world-famous Abel Tasman Coast Track. With a mild climate and easy access its a good place to visit at any time of the year.

  • Golden Bay

A destination for travellers from around the world, Golden Bay's attraction lies in its remoteness and proximity to internationally significant conservation areas, such as Farewell Spit, Kahurangi National Park and Te Waikoropupu Springs. This plus its relaxed festival atmosphere and friendly culture mean that the population triples during the holiday summer season.

An absolutely stunning location. The perfect place to unwind and relax. We were a bit worried about the compost toilet but it wasn’t a problem at all. The bed was comfortable and the outdoor bath was a real treat. We’ll definitely be back.

Great place, amazing views, unique stay, nature, this place has a lot to offer! The one thing we feel to warn people about that you might not see on the listing is there is no keys for the locks on the doors so you will not be able to leave the place secure or go to sleep knowing the place is locked. If this isn't an issue for you, you will have a great stay!

We had two nights when our travel plans in the area changed last minute. Was a great option, communication and check in were easy and the location unbeatable, near the end of the Abel Tasman. The house was immaculate and cosy. Will be back for sure.

The Little Greenie had been on my wish list for years and the wait was most definitely worth it. The views were incredible, the peace and privacy unsurpassed, and what a delight to stay in such a thoughtfully designed and built space. I had the best night’s sleep in a very long time and the location was perfect for accessing the northern end of the Abel Tasman. To top it off was the outdoor bath under the stars. I will absolutely come back and highly recommend booking Little Greenie.

What a beautiful location. The bach was extremely clean and ready for our arrival. The fancy super efficient doors were a bit to get used to, but i understand why they were chosen. A lot of thought went into this building and it's seen throughout. We had both great sunny weather and rainy stormy weather, with both condition brought a different view from the bach, all which were amazing and comfortable.

This place is a beautiful and secluded spot. I might have not paid attention when booking but here are a few things that surprised me when I arrived. It is very remote, not a great distance from Takaka but slow driving basically on the edge of Abel Tasman park. There is nothing there. Just some salt and pepper and tea bags. You will need to bring all the supplies you need for your stay (there are pots and pans and a good stove for cooking). It is quite elevated which gives a great view, but you can’t just walk down to the water. It is an experience in simple living, but again very little provided just two microfibre towels and sheets on the bed, so bring any luxuries you might want. It is however totally worth the stay and you will feel refreshed. Also the weka are soooo cool (but naughty watch out!).

The Little Greenie is the perfect place for some downtime and R&R. The view is amazing, both during the day and the stars on show at night. Highly recommend. Thanks again...

When you arrive at Golden Bay Hideaway you can use the intercom at the gate to announce your arrival. From there you simply follow the signs to your accommodation of choice - ready and waiting. And for checkout you can just leave.

We'll never arrive unannounced and burst your bubble. But of course we're always around should you need us - just call or send us a message.
